wise-up: Promoting Healthy Lifestyles through Street Theatre

Program Overview

Wise up is a dynamic program designed to promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness of key issues facing young people and tertiary education institutions. Utilizing the power of street theatre, professional actors will engage audiences in thought-provoking performances that highlight the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and unprotected sex, while also providing education and resources to support positive behavior change.

Program Structure

  1. Script Development:​

    • Ensure that the scripts incorporate relevant statistics, personal stories, and practical tips for risk reduction and harm prevention.

    • Collaborate with experienced playwrights, health educators, and youth advocates to develop compelling scripts that address the targeted issues in an engaging and accessible manner.

  2. Professional Actor Training:

    • Recruit a team of professional actors with experience in street theatre and health education.

    • Provide comprehensive training on the topics of drugs, alcohol, and sexual health, as well as effective communication techniques for engaging diverse audiences.

  3. Street Performances:

    • Stage interactive street performances in high-traffic areas frequented by young people, such as parks, plazas, and college campuses.

    • Performances will feature dynamic storytelling, music, and audience participation to capture attention and encourage engagement.

  4. Post-Performance Discussions:

    • Facilitate post-performance discussions and Q&A sessions to deepen audience understanding of the issues and address any questions or concerns.

    • Provide informational resources, referrals to support services, and opportunities for audience members to share their own experiences and perspectives.
